Fabulous

Today was one of those days I had nightmares about. Oversleeping the day of a midterm.

Last night I didn't get out of the doctor's office, where I was diagnosed with a general cold, a sinus infection and an ear infection, until 9:30. By 10:30 I was back at school with three medications and NyQuil and ready to study for criminal justice.

This is my insane, but has proven well, study habit. Read the chapter, re-read the chapter and highlight, re-write the highlighted into my notebook, sort through my notebook notes and type up and then print out my final copy of notes. Long, yes. But it always impressed my government teacher when I showed up with 10 pages of single-spaced notes for the test. So I did that for my criminal justice midterm.

When I came back from the doctors I still had to type a bit. Then I found out I was out of black ink. No problem, I'll print it in purple. It came out to be 8 pages. At 12 I began to reread my notes. Around 1 I decided I had a good grasp and I'd continue going over my notes during my morning routine. At 3:48 in the morning (my roommate was oddly still awake..) I took a swing of NyQuil and fell back asleep to wake up at...8:58, 2 minutes before classes started.

My dorm is on a campus 15 minutes away from the regular campus. I get to rely on the shuttle. I obviously missed the 9 shuttle and was forced to take the 9:20 and get there at 9:40. 40 minutes late for the midterm. I was cursing as I decided to just show up in class in my pjs and my hair resembling a golden retriever. I only lined one eye as I ran out.

I have NEVER been late for class. Never in high school. Never in middle school and probably never in elementary school. So you can imagine I was on the verge of tears thanks to my PMSing body (thank you God, for me not having to worry about that today) and the amount of meds in my body.

I came into class and my professor couldn't be nicer as I stumbled in, pale as a ghost and having one ear hot pink from an infection and glassy eyes. He just smiled and explained the instructions.

To top it off, the nightmare of them morning I had was blocking my photographic memory. Usually I can visually look at my notes in my mind and retrieve the answers. Nope, not today.

All Grown Up

Usually when I'm sick I have to go through the dreadful process of convincing my mom that I am in fact sick and that it is worthy enough for me to miss school. Nurses are the hardest on their children. My mom would then tell me to take a shower and then report on how I feel. Somehow a hot shower can solve half of whatever I have.

Now, I'm on my own in college. I had one class, political science, for 2 hours today. I slept and figured that staying home and resting would be much more productive then my political science class (if you had the pleasure of sitting in that dreadful class then you too would agree).

I went to go blow my nose, which is no longer a nose but rather a faucet that is leaking multicolored mucus, and realized I had no tissues. Damnit. Instead of voyaging outside into the freezing cold rain with higher than normal wind gusts to buy tissues I thought soup may help. So I went to the community kitchen to make soup. Only to find out that I locked myself out. And no RAs were on duty. So I got to wait around for 30 minutes for security. Once back in my room I realized soup didn't cure the fact that everytime I swallowed it felt as though I was swallowing a knife. I finally gave in and took the bus downtown where I was greeted with a heavy downpour.

Never have I ever made such an errand. Usually when I need some medications I just ask my mom to stop by CVS on her way home from work. Not any more. Before even going into the pharamacy I had to get text messege from my bank to find out how much I could spend on my drugs. There has gotta be a million forms of cold and flu medicines. 10 minutes later I settled on a bottle of NyQuil. Then I looked at tissues. Once again, why are there so many kinds? There were colored ones, ones in smaller more decorative boxes that cost more, tisses infused with some crack like lotion, it went on and on and on. The cheapest were blue Kleenex.

Now I know to stock up on things. Otherwise when you need things the most it'll be freezing rain and will probably only make you sicker.

The College Life

I have been in college for almost two months now and its hard to describe what life has been like.

First off, dorming. My first dorm room was a quad and my roommates and I had some problems once classes started. I'm the go to bed around midnight-really clean-don't study with music or TV-type of girl and they were the go to be after midnight-not so clean-study and always have music or TV blasting. I quickly got out and thought things would end well instead it was the opposite. Screaming matches and constant yelling and asking them why they were so mad at me for being the quiet student I am lead to a quick dorm change. The final straw was a loud fight that had our neighbors on our floor come over because it probably sounded awful. They were screaming at me for being quiet.I then moved to my new and current dorm. A huge improvement. Its a triple but only me and my 1 roommate reside in it. Now one of my old roommates wants to really make it a triple all this while hearing nasty rumors that my old roommates are spreading that I'm racist and thats why I left the dorm. I am racist, racist to those who cannot respect my being and the fact I cannot successfully study with music and the TV in the background.

Classes, however, have been great. One class that is truly facinating is Criminal Justice. If I struggle finding a job in sports journalism, I would consider entering the criminal justice field. I've joined a bunch of clubs like the school newspaper, became a member of my dorm building's hall council and help promote my college.

All in all, its been crazy but nonetheless I took some photos of my new dorm room.

My comforter was inspiration for all the accessories I got for my room.

I assume these awesome lights are allowed, it gets very dark in my room.

The glow from this light is bitchin.
